Custom Instructions
To access these settings, go to User Preferences > Companion.
Companion lets you set up a special "system prompt" - think of it as a personal rulebook that Companion will always follow when chatting with you.
This is a great way to customize how Companion thinks, responds, and communicates. Here’s what you can do:
Role: Want Companion to wear a particular hat? You can guide it to act as your Project Manager, Sales Coach, Technical Lead, or any other role that fits your needs. Just describe the role you want—it will do its best to match the style.
Language: Need all your answers in Polish, Spanish, or another language, no matter what language you use to ask? Just say so in your prompt, and Companion will always reply the way you prefer.
Format: Prefer information as bullet points, concise checklists, or polished executive summaries? Tell Companion your favorite response style and it will shape its answers accordingly.
These instructions help Companion give you responses that feel right for your workflow and personality.
Response Style
Companion’s response style can be easily adjusted to match the way you like to receive information. This helps you get answers in a tone and level of detail that suits your situation. Here’s a quick guide to each option:
Concise: Short, direct answers that get straight to the point. Perfect when you just need the essentials, especially during fast-paced meetings.
Detailed: Comprehensive and well-explained responses. Great if you prefer step-by-step guidance or want in-depth summaries for more complex topics.
Technical: Uses precise language and formal explanations, ideal for engineering tasks, code help, or data analysis. Choose this when you want expert-level clarity.
Friendly: A warmer, more conversational tone that helps make information feel approachable - excellent for drafting emails, onboarding teammates, or anytime you want a human touch.
Just pick the style that fits your workflow, and Companion will adapt its responses to best support you.
Auto-Approve Tools
Companion can use tools (like creating a Linear ticket or sending an email) to help you work. By default, it asks for permission before taking action.
You can auto-approve specific tools to speed up your workflow using "glob patterns", here are the examples:
send_* : Auto-approves sending emails or messages.
create_* : Auto-approves creating tickets or events.
* : Auto-approves ALL actions (use with caution).
